Is it normal to stay up so late?

Is it normal if my daughter stays up as lat as 11:30 sometimes? She says she's always really tired in the morning but dosent go to sleep. I don't think she has insomnia and she really tries to go to sleep!!! What should she do? Please help!!

    She's playing you!
No child wants to go to sleep. Sleep is boring!

She's up so late that she's getting her second wind. This is what happens to me. I can be too tired to climb the stairs but then remember something I need to do, and that's me to at least 3am.

I assume you've tried no liquids after 7pm and she's lying in a dark room (with no TV!!!) from 9pm - 11.30pm before she calls you.

It's really very simple. She will fall asleep out of boredom and if she's still complaining you can do what I did - get her to rhyme her times tables starting from 2 up to 12, over and over again. Even if she doesn't fall asleep for 2 hours, at least she will have made good use of her time and be great at maths.

If you can't discipline her then give her an anti-histimine that will make her sleepy.
It's up to you, to show who's the parent here!!!

It depends... how old is she? Is she actually trying to go to sleep? Is she in a room alone? You might be over-worrying if she's in high school. She might be doing something else besides going to sleep. During high school, to get out of the habit of falling asleep really late, I stay up for a whole 24 hour then sleep at an earlier time, like around 9 to get my system back into sleeping earlier. Maybe she should do that? Which ever way, talk to her.

Hmm, yeah she could be drinking too much caffeine (friends house, school)...could even be hormones. My body started to change around then. Good luck :)

Same with me about the caffine. I really have to avoid it after about 3 pm. I am also a night owl and can stay up for ungodly amounts of time for no reason. I get really tired and when I go to lay down I can't sleep or become twitchy. I started taking a pill every night called "knock out". It's NOT a sleeping pill it is a natural supplement found in the vitamin section. It contains melatonin which your body naturally produces and valerian root extract. It helps me to relax and enables me to be calm enough to fall asleep. Hope this helps!

Ive always been a night person, but I think I might have a slight sleeping issue also. Its probably nothing serious for her. Make sure shes not drinking any caffeine...I know that even if I drink even a little bit of caffeine, I have a very hard time sleeping that night. It does depend how old she is tho.....?
