Is it normal to stay up all night drinking alone?

For some reason I really like to stay up all night drinking hard liquor straight. I only really like to do this when i'm alone. sometimes i'll play my guitar, or watch tv, but i always have music on. maybe it has something to do with my age. i'm 23 and just got out of the military after 5 years of bullshit. i usually start at midnight and stop when im drunk enough or when the sun starts to rise (which is doing so as i type).
anyone else out there or is this really bizarre for someone my age?

i'm 22 and i do that sometimes, although only up until about 3 or 4 AM. there's nothing wrong with it, if you ask me. alcohol can be great company, sometimes.

i too usually work on my novel or write poetry. or just dance! and i have music playing all the time, too.

wow i can honestly say this was not the reaction i thought i'd get.

why good luck? i do it for fun. some people like to go to the beach or the picnic, i like to drink all night by myself. maybe not EXACTLY similar (lol) but i would like to think so.

people are always saying the stuff i do is 'really sad'. i used to sit on post listening to old blues albums. i still don't understand how that's 'sad' but everyone thought so. maybe because it was at night... i don't know.

BUT ANYWAYS (sorry for rambling). i don't drink all night ALL the time. it's something that i look forward to. i guess for people that watch TV it's like their favorite show coming on. i'd have to say between 1 to 3 times a week.

is this really THAT insane, or have i been surrounded by military ppl too long?

I hate how people in the military sacrifice themselves for dipshits like you, Eva. Cheers!

  • Why are you surprised by people's reactions? What you describe would, to any ordinary person, sound like problem. That it is not to you means a) its not; or, B) you are in denial.

I do this once in awhile. I'll drink a box of wine and blast music. I don't do it all the time. maybe once or twice a month. I think it's okay as long as it's not every night and not interfering with your other responsibilities. I know the military takes a lot from you and if this relieves some stress it's fine once in awhile to get trashed and enjoy the music you like.

I guess what would differentiate your drinking sessions from alcoholism is the reason why you do it. If you look forward to drinking the night away because it's fun and it makes you happy, then that's great. But, if you're binging because you want to repress horrible memories, or you don't want to deal with life's stresses, then it's a problem. I didn't mean to be condescending or anything when I wished you luck. lol. I was being sincere. I really hope you don't have a problem.

It's not normal. It's actually really sad. I'll not bore you with the usual "get help" crap...but...yunno...

    Good luck :(

This sounds pretty normal after 5 years of bullshit and military people drink like fish anyways

Sounds like my husband...or at least my fear for him once he gets back from his deployment and goes through with his demented plan to divorce me. Apparently he is already borderline alcoholic. You though are probably fully alcoholic. If you care about your next few years, next couple of decades, and your liver, I would suggest that you seek help asap.
