Is it normal to stay sober in college and still try to make friends?

Is it normal if I choose to stay sober in college and still manage to create a social life without drinking or smoking?

I'm currently a transfer student to a four year university in Illinois as a sophmore, so I'm pretty new to actual college life. When I'm not keeping up with school, I skateboard in my free time as much as possible, it's basically my passion and its what I love to do. That being said, I consider myself a fairly shy person, and I"m pretty straight edge as well. I've just chosen to not drink, smoke, or do drugs on a personal decision, nothing agianst it, just not for me. With that in mind, I go to a state school, so it's got the rep for being a BIG party school. So is it normal for me to not go to parties and stay sober yet still make good friends in college? All your guy's feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks

Do what you feel is best. :) I think that you are making a good decision. There are so many people out there that will look at college as one big party. Not a place to forward in future jobs. (Just think how much money they waste.) ;)

I'm sure that you will meet like-minded people, and people who will simply not care, or pressure you to drinking.

    Kudos for the will power.

Anyway, I'm not in college yet. I'm planning on attending community college first. Sorry, but like I said, you'll meet some cool people. (maybe even the love of your life) hehe :)

You sound kinda cool. If they don't wanna hang out with you, their loss. At least you won't be there if they accidentally hit someone with a car while drunk driving.
