Is it normal to spray a babys face with water?

If a baby naps throughout the day it will naturally keep waking up at night and disturbing the parents sleep. I was wondering if it's acceptable to use a spray bottle during the day so that everytime the baby starts to drift off to sleep you can spray it's face to keep it awake. That way the baby will be so tired by evening it will sleep without waking all through the night.
Is this normal or does it count as cruelty?

Do you also shake a can of nuts and bolts at the baby when it does something bad, just to scare it into behaving? How about spanking it with a rolled up newspaper when it wets its diaper? Are you one of those parents with a baby leash? I KNOW, you can get it an invisible fence and make the baby wear a shock collar so that you don't even have to watch your baby though out the day!

It is a baby not a pet.

If anything the spraying will just make the baby cry louder and longer!

Most babies, when over tired, become hysterical to the point that they can't sleep and will scream for hours.

I know you've only posted this story for the reaction it gets.

Babies need a lot more sleep than adults. You can't expect them to be on your schedule. I am willing to bet you were a baby at one time and bugged the shit out of many a person. It's the circle of annoying life.

WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!! first of all how old are you and are you already a parent because i dont think you should be a parent. when babies get to be a few years old they will get into a routine. naps and bed time will become set.

i think you need to be fixed. just sayin.

No, it's not normal. Please don't breed.

No, I wouldn't do that. You should be able to achieve the same effect by blowing sharply and repeatedly onto the babies face - this will not hurt it, but will wake it. I use this on my boyfriend when he falls asleep early so that he wakes up but doesn't know I've deliberately woken him :P

Don't spray the child's face. It's totally not cool because you have to watch the child all day to make sure they're not falling asleep. Who wants to do that? Just mix a little crystal meth in with their formula (or do some yourself if you're breastfeeding) and that should keep them awake most of the day.

How about we bash your head into the wall. This is not funny stop fucking with children. You are a terrible parent. Aggravating the baby like this is probobly just going to aggravate it more.

Not normal but, if nobody sees you, it's not like the baby is going to tell anyone.

I think babies waken during the night coz they are hungry.

My son rarely slept day or night. I went to the doctor and asked for something to help him sleep. He said he wasn't in the business of drugging babies to make them sleep. So, I asked if he could give me some drugs to help me sleep through the crying :o( No!!

Anyone who cannot go at least 24 hours without sleep should NEVER even consider having a baby. It wouldn't be the first case where a parent shook a child in frustration and shouted 'Shut up!' into its face. However, during the process they snap the baby's neck and kill it :o(

If it's not nice to do that to cats, than it's not nice to do it to a newborn. Besides, they need more sleep than a adult human and sleep deprivation can cause many health issues. Don't do it.

Working at a daycare with mutliple infants I found that you can keep a baby up by keeping them occupied with toys and food. However, babies do have different sleep patterns than adults. I would never spray a baby in the face with water- that's something you do to your cat!!! Try using different toys that they can play with without assistance so that you can take a break if you need to.

Babies need a lot of sleep. He or she will be sleeping through the night soon.
Don't spray the baby in the face.

It's not even nice to spray a dog with water. Not a very good method of correcting unwanted behavior plus it sounds like water torture to me.

Not nice. If you know what your doing, it shouldn't take long for the baby to be on a schedule where he/she sleeps through the night

I did it with my ex's cats.. works like magic! although you can spray cats with vinegar cause they hate it. Not sure babies hate vinegar (never had one around), but you can try.
Whatever it takes to shut it the hell up. Besides we all end up growing up with issues, so I say it's alright. but. mind ya - some people in child services might think it's cruelty.

it's... too late. We have lost the cats. As for the kid -I started using sulphur dioxide to make it fall asleep. Now we've lost the child and have acid rains on our house.

        A minute of silence please.

and now - any time you see my nickname, divide what i said by a good measure of sarcasm and black humour.

You all are a bunch of pussies. Is it hurting the child? No. Is the child going to grow up emotionally scarred for life? Likely not.

Good sleep is important for brain development in young children. And yes, it would traumatise a young baby.
