Is it normal to spend money and then feel angry or depressed later?

A lot of the time I become obsessed with certain things that are fairly expensive and spend a fair amount of my money on them or ask for them as christmas/birthday presents. However, I only use them for a couple of weeks or months before I lose interest and move on to another obsession, and whenever i think about those things I become really angry, depressed and guilty and keep on obsessively thinking about how I spent hundreds of dollars on these things and now I'm completely wasting them. I never like spending much money, but when I do it seems like everything I buy always becomes useless and it really bothers me. Is this normal or is this a real problem?

I do that sometimes too. I'll buy something that I can afford but I second guess myself and feel guilty about spending the money.

...this is exactly how I feel. I don't buy things because someone says they're "cool," I buy them because I want them.
I am financially responsible for myself, and actually plan on being some sort of economist/financial advisor. Just don't max out all your credit cards! Please. It is not free money.
KNOW how much you can afford to "waste."
And if you think you have too much useless stuff, sell it on ebay and buy something new.

Mmmm... it is perfectly normal to have "buyers remorse" after a purchase, specially when you buy something very expensive.
But you seem to keep dwelling on the issue.
I suggest you make a budget for your expenses, and leave some money for luxury items; you might feel more in "cotrol" over this remorse.
let me know how it goes...

this is a bad habit that can have real consequences in your own financial future. i don't know how old you are, but at some point you will become responsible for yourself and maybe others. maybe it's immediate gratification that you like, but are realizing that it isn't as fulfulling as you'd hope.

In this incredibly commercial global society we live in, unfortunately, this is becoming a normal phenomenon. The industrialization of the past century has allowed us to become obsessed with amassing items that are supposed to bring us ease, leisure and a sense of fulfillment. I don't think this is always the case.

I think the sense of guilt you feel, is an indication that deep within you, these items you purchase at such expensive prices are meaningless to you. Sure they may look good, may make others envious of you...they may even give your life a "perceived necessary" convenience, but it appears that in actuality, they do not.

If this is the case, then stop. Stop responding to the commercials, stop buying just because it's a sale, stop getting the latest model, or the newest design, stop acting on impulse, stop acting; stop! This is under YOUR control. It is YOUR responsibility to do what feels like the most authentic choice at each turn. So stop(!) and start living YOUR own life!

    best of luck to you!
