Is it normal to spend lots of time scraping out my pores?

I cannot stand the feeling of having greasy skin. I don't get pimples or skin grease anymore than the average person but soon as I feel skin grease I have to wash it out. Especially on my nose. I mostly do it in the shower but I do it at other times too. I spend on average 30 minutes to an hour a day doing this. I have techniques I have discovered that work well for this such as scraping my nose and face with a spoon or an unsharpened razor and all the puss comes out of the pores. I like my skin to be dry and the oily feeling bothers me. This has not seemed to leave me any scars and I feel like I have an efficient way of doing this.

I don't think it's a very good idea for a simple reason: the way you're constantly drying out your skin... rather than getting rid of the grease, it's probably provoking it into producing even *more* grease in order to compensate for the dryness.

My advice: scape out your pores if it makes you happy (just be careful with the tools) and then use moisterizer.

Not sure if it's particularly healthy, but I understand you completely. I also really hate that oily greasy feeling I get on my skin, which is unfortunate for me because I naturally have quite oily skin, so I'm always washing my face. I do the scrapy thingy as well, especially on my nose. I hate having clogged pores, and it feels so refreshing right after you scrape them out. It's weird I know, maybe it's a habit worth getting over, I can't imagine it being too healthy for your skin.

    • I agree that it does feel refreshing, as if my pores are breathing better.

I have oily skin to (on my face, the rest of my body is normal) but, I absolutely have to wash my face as soon as I wake up each morning and each night before I go to bed (also sometimes in between) so, I understand how irritating an oily face can be and how gross it makes you feel but scraping your skin is not healthy. It only further irritates the skin and could introduce bacteria into your pores causing puss to build up.

The best thing you could do is buy a face wash/cleanser made just for people with oily skin. Wash your face in the morning and at night before you go to bed. Also wash it when you bathe/shower. In addition to a face wash you can also buy a cream or lotion to put on afterward. If you are a girl, now they make creams for oily skin that also have foundation mixed in with them.
