Is it normal to snoop through peoples things?

I know it's not RIGHT, but do people normally do this out of curiosity? Like if you share an apartment with somebody or are living in somebody else's house do you ever get curious and snoop through some of their things when you have a chance, to see what secrets they might have in their life?

A lot of people hide things, porn, or whatever, under their mattress, or naked photos of themselves or SO in their underwear drawer. Is it normal to get curious and snoop?

  • No. Most people would consider this unacceptable to do.

The only time I would think this is ok is if you are sure they are stealing your things and are lying about it and you need to look for your stuff.

      I like your answer best.
I guess maybe I didn't phrase the question properly because some respondents seemed to think I was asking for approval, which I wasn't.
I was asking if people normally snoop, simply out of curiosity, even though they know they are not supposed to.

      • No, it's not socially acceptable to snoop. I recommend trying to work on being less curious and minding your business if it doesn't effect you.

I'm with everybody above. Snoop through our stuff and you'll be swimming a good long distance, with all your stuff and a 50# anchor tied around your waist, as a parting gift.
    That's just plain creepy.

I like snooping in people's underwear...
    ...especially while they're wearing them.

I would say it is normal to be curious, but not right to snoop (especially in the undergarment drawer of the opposite sex)...

I suppose many people do, but snooping is very disrespectful and you should not be digging through someone's things without permission. The only time I ever did that was when I lived with my mum and my sisters back in London and my sisters all had a terrible case of kleptomania... In the end I changed the lock on my bedroom door and carried the key around my neck. I did not trust them anymore.
You should never go through someone's belongings, not only will it make them angry and distrustful of you if they discover what you have done, but it is also very rude and disrespectful towards the other person.

I share an apartment with another gentleman...and I'll take a look at what he's got out, but it stops there...If he wants to discuss anything hidden from me...he'll bring it up...otherwise...it's none of my business...and I feel the same of him...we have a good relationship due to this in spite of the fact that we have very different backgrounds...tastes...etc...respect...that's what it should be about...especially if you're the guest...

I suspect you're into forensics, probate, etc...that REQUIRES that you do so...not that you're just plain being nosy...This I would understand...
