Is it normal to smoke indoors with children living in the home?

Is it normal to smoke indoors (in common areas) with children living in the home?

Bonus Questions:

What is your opinion on parents who smoke cigarettes inside the house they share with their children?

If your parents smoked when you were a child, did they smoke indoors?

Do you smoke? If so, do you smoke inside your home (whether or not you have kids)? Do you have children? If you DO smoke, would you ever even consider smoking indoors with children in the home or is that a total no-brainer?

It is the best way to prepare them for smoking, when they turn 4.

I don't have kids. The Marlboro Man died a virgin. I was too busy smoking to worry with women.

Given the fact studies have already shown the things that can happen from 2nd hand smoke it is not the wisest decision.

When I was a kid, most of my friends' parents smoked indoors. We all lived to adulthood safely and soundly. I think this whole smoking outdoors thing is blown out of proportion.

For 17 years of my life my parents smoked indoors. We lived in smaller places too so there wasn't much space for the smoke to go. I think it's horrible for children to have to breathe toxic fumes. I would never put my child through such bodily harm.

Your children will suffer 10x worse than you if you smoke around them.
Cig's have filters, the smoke they inhale doesn't.

It's grossly wrong to me, and I would never smoke around my children. I get disgusted at the sight of people who smoke... that's just not my scene.

My mom smoked inside my whole life even after she found out it was making my health problems worse.

If I ever have children she will not be allowed to smoke anywhere near them.

I do smoke but only outside, i used to smoke in the car but now i dont since my kid was born. I don't believe in making my kid suffer second hand smoke just because i have a bad habit.

Parents who smoke in their home are literally killing their children. Nobody should ever force their child to breathe in those harmful chemicals.

I don't think "is it normal" is the right question here. I don't care who lives in the house, it's just not a very smart thing to do.

I stopped smoking inside a long time ago. It seems weird that people still do it, but I know they do. None of my smoker friends smoke in their homes either. It is an outdoor activity. Now I feel weird smoking inside buildings as everything turns yellow and stinks.

My apartment doesn't seem to have a noticable smell from me smoking in here. I do generally prefer to smoke outside but it gets so cold sometimes I just can't do it in the winter. XD

I didn't think my apartment smelled but when I moved out and saw the pretty white squares on the wall that were hiding behind the pictures, I kind of stopped trusting my nose. But I do live in a climate where rain is the only winter obstacle.

  • YHou're the parent, you can do whatever you like in your own house,as long as youtake care/provide for your kids, they have no business telling you what the fuck to do if you're the one paying the bills,TELL THE LITTLE FUCKERS TO GO OUTSIDE,IN THEIR OWN ROOM& CLOSE THE DOOR,& OPEN THE WINDOW,OR GO ELSEWHERE.As for myself I damn smoke,NEVER plan on having any little BITCHES/BASTARDS,so I don't have to worry about that bullshit. However I don't smoke in the company of others when requested at their homes kids or not.

I am opposed to smoking cigarettes due to the harm they cause the body, wallet, etc.

I would never smoke cigarettes on a regular basis, and especially not indoors or around children. The children are not old enough to know the harms of smoking and to make a decision whether they want to expose themselves to it.

I would prefer if people did not smoke around other people in general, especially non-smokers and children.

My mom smoked all through my childhood. I had bronchial infections every other month, constant colds. She still won't own up to having partly caused it, but I'm sure it was her smoking that caused it. Even worse, my clothes always reeked of smoke and kids at school made fun of me for it. I hate how cigarettes smell. I do smoke hookah, cigars and sometimes MJ, but plan on quitting doing these things at home once i have kids.

Both my parents smoke. Mum has quit on occasion, but they both smoked through my childhood. Mum has always smoked outside, and away from us kids. I think she gets a bit pissed off at me that I refuse to walk on the same side of the road as her nowadays when she smokes :P I just can't stand the stuff, I literally gag at the slightest whiff of it.

My father used to smoke in the car with us, windows rolled up, air conditioner on. It did wonders for my brother's asthma.

He used to blow smoke in my baby half sister's face when she was 6 months old. When her mother (Who smoked through her pregnancy) or anyone else told him to stop, he'd say, "She likes it, it tickles her".

    I hate my father.

We are responsible for the well being of our children.

I take it smokers are already "burden" with with the cost of cigarettes let alone the potential costs of dealing with health hazards of not only themselves but also their children.

I'm a smoker and I have no children. When there are non-smokers home I just don't smoke or I go outside to do it. I never smoke where there are children and non-smokers. My father smoked ( he has quit now) but he never smoked indoor. Never.

Its common, but not normal if you know the dangers of secondhand smoking.

I think if you really know what you're exposing your children to, you'd be smart enough not to do it, or to at least... take it somewhere else, like outdoors. Why ruin your childrens health because of your own stupidity?

My parents have smoked for as long as I can remember. My dad quit recently though, my moms still smokes. They went outside whenever they could. I remember my mom sitting under the ventilation fan under our microwave when she smoked when I was younger. Now she uses her room and opens a window or uses the bathroom ventilation fan. Both of my parents always tried to keep the smoke away from me and my siblings. I never minded it, though.
