Is it normal to smell the sent of a loved one?

I sometimes smell my brother, my mom, and sadly my ex-boyfriends sent. What is up with that? Is that normal? All three of them live far away from me in a different state and I have nothing in my living quarter that belong to them or has anything to do with them.

Correction to my last post where I had a typo... I meant "sense OF smell" not "sense odd smell" sorry for the mistake.

My bestfriend ( I love him to death :P ) he wears 'Curve' cologne and when he gives me hugs I smell like him all day. And, sometimes at night, I swear I can smell him (:

I'm an anosmic ie I don't smell a thing, not a jar of pickles not the smell of hospitals, nothing. But I was not always like this, earlier i cd smell.
Few days ago I wrote an email to my ex sweetheart after a long time and was waiting for a reply, while driving to home from work I smelled her, I swear I did.
In medical school I've read somewhere tht smells are the quickest way to memories because of the anatomy of olfactory system. I can confirm to tht.
I was not thinking about her at tht particular moment and suddenly I smelled her scent and I was all nostalgic. Call it olfactory hallucination, call it lost love, I felt it, being an anosmic I can't say 'it is normal' but it sure happens.

Phantom smells occur when we smell things that are not really there. It is possible that you were experiencing that when your mom, brother and ex-bfs' scents came upon you. Sometimes these phantom scents come about when someone is on our minds, we had a dream about them recently or we have some emotional or psychological trigger that we associate with them. Here's an example of the last suggestion:

You always smell your mom's gardening gloves when she comes in from working in the yard and drops them on the counter top before she prepares sunday lunch. So one day, 5 yrs later when you are in a different side of the world from your mother and your childhood home, on a particularly difficult thursday afternoon when your stomach feels unusually empty, you suddenly get a whiff of those old musty, dewy gloves.

It's fairly normal since your sense odd smell is directly linked to memories.... Your ability to spell the word SCENT is in need of a little help. :-/
