Is it normal to sleep every other night?

For the past couple of weeks, I have been sleeping every other night. I sleep upwards of fifteen hours one night, then stay up all night the next. I seem to have no control over this. If I try to wake at a normal time on a "sleep" night, I am exhausted all day. If I try to sleep on an "awake" night, I toss and turn, but don't fall asleep.

My sleeping habits changed originally as a result of a change in class schedule: I now have every other day off. Since I started sleeping this way, I feel more alert and happy during the day and sleep more deeply. I wake up feeling relaxed. I've been able to focus on my class assignments properly, and as a result I get them done on time. I have also noticed an overall decrease in anxiety. Most oddly, I have started remembering my dreams again, which I haven't done in years.

Is this normal?

I wouldn't say it's "normal" but sounds awesome!

      ^Agree 100%.
I wish I could do that.

I sleep about 6-7 hours at night and sometimes a 1hr afternoon nap. I'm not tired at bedtime, but always feel miserable and lazy when I get up.

Sounds like it could be a sleep disorder, but it's good to hear that it's making you feel better.

This happens to me in times of great stress - like after a family death, etc. However, I don't like it coz I'm always tired but it settles down again after a few weeks.
