Is it normal to sleep 12 hours and still be tired?

I take a sleep medication called Clonidine, which helps me sleep easier. However, when I wake up, I am "out of my mind" tired. It usually gets somewhat better, later in the day. Can someone please tell me if I'm normal?

Yeah mist of the time 12 hours is too much. I k ow the med you are on, I have also had to have taken it too. Personally it knocked me out. Pills have different effects on people. Notmally try to sleep for 8-9 hours or even a little less. You don't wanna get too little sleep as for it can be tough on your body also. In my opinion find out what is giving you trouble sleeping and fix it. Whether it's worrying about stuff while layon in bed or just Latin there thinking. That can make it rough to fall asleep. Pour it down the drain and don't take it anymore, it may have something to do with you vein tired still. I say dump it and take as few pills as you possibly can. As forbthey are also tough on your body. Relax calm down and fall asleep. If it takes you a while to fall asleep go to bed a bit earlier to make up for how long it takes. Hope I helped. Goodluck!

Yes, that's very normal. I don't know why exactly, because I'm not an expert, but I usually feel very tired when I get too much sleep. I would consider 12 hours too much. Try to get anywhere from 8-9 hours and when you wake up you should feel refreshed, not fatigued. Hope I helped!

The medication is likely preventing you from reaching proper REM cycles. If you don't get these proper cycles you will not wake up rested. It is also possible to get too much sleep. For me, 7-9 is my nightly goal. I can function of 5 or 6 but I'm usually groggy.

  • Talk to your physician. It could be you have sleep apnea. With sleep apnea, the quality of sleep is very poor, inducing fatigue, regardless of the quantity of sleep you think you're getting.

I function fine on 4 or 5 hours of sleep but that is differebt from person to person
Like the others said you probably just feel tired because you slept too much
Try sleeping less and see how that works for you

Uh.. Clonidine isn't a sleep med. I got it prescribed it for heroin withdrawal. It's a blood pressure med. But ya if you get too much sleep (like 12 hours in one night) then it is normal to still feel tired.

It's normal I don't have medication but it happens to me all the time and 8-9 hours of sleepis probably better than all that time

It is normal because it's just too much sleep. You can be tired when sleeping too much just like how you'd be tired from sleeping too little. Really, the hours of sleep that people need is different for everyone. Try to experiment with how many hours of sleep you need ^_^
And you should probably ask your doctor to lower the dose of the medication because you're probably taking too much. Buuuut I am no doctor :P

Too much sleep makes you tired. Take less med and cut your sleep.to 6-7 hours.
