I let one of my friends stay at my house because he had no where else to go, is it normal that I shared my bed with him?

Yes, me and my best friend do it all the time and its completely normal. I don't understand why guys in this country get so worked up over this kind of thing.

It's normal if you are the kind of friends that can trust each other. It isn't much different than if two people were sitting on the couch watching TV together and fell asleep sitting there.
Years ago when I worked on a bridge building crew we travelled all over. The company paid our rooms in the motel but only enough money for two guys to a bed. It was just the way it was. No problems. A lot of jokes were made sometimes about what somebody "allegedly" did in their sleep, but we were just sleeping. It's normal. We slept in our underwear.
It's totally normal. Although I'm not sure whether your friend is the opposite sex or not, it is still normal. I sleep in the same bed with my friends very often.
