Is it normal to shake violently in your sleep?

Sometimes when my boyfriend is sleeping, he will violently shake - it looks just like he's having a fit, although I don't think he is because if I shout his name enough he just wakes up, acknowledges me and then falls back asleep again. It's a bit scary, and he has no memory of it happening in the morning. Is this normal?

    Hello there!

I can't say I'm best qualified to answer, but I know that dogs and pigs shake violently in their sleep.

And old best friend from when I was a teenager used to come to mine for sleepovers, and I woke up to find her literally hmping thin air on the Lilo® bed. She had no idea she was doing it - but we did have a good laugh!

I'm not sure if this is anything to worry about, judging by what you say regarding his responding to stimuli (i.e. your calling his name) and the fact that he claims not to have any recollection of his shaking - especially if he is physically sound upon waking up from a deep sleep.

Perhaps you could see if he'd see a doctor or other medical professional, if you're worried.

    Good luck!

    xx

My husband does this! I think it's like he's dreaming, he'll jerk around and twitch (like a puppy, lol). Usually he'll stop if I touch him, like just put my hand on his shoulder or something. I've also been told that I move my legs around a lot when I sleep (I've seen video and it's weird!). I think people just do strange things when they sleep.

It could be many things from a seizure to a nightmare. The best thing to do is to take to a sleep centre. While he sleeps there they'll monitor him and see if there's anything out of the ordinary.

    Good Luck!

I just mean when I get woken up, i am NOT a happy camper, and in my sleepy grumpy mood there is no room for cuddles - just sleep!!

I read a story similar to this before. It's normal to do weird stuff in your sleep. From what I've been told, I actually mumble in sleep, and let me tell that it's pretty awkward finding that out from a classmate.
