Is it normal to send an invitation to remind someone of a lunch daye

I sent someone flowers for their birthday , and the person called me and thanked me then asked me to have lunch. I said yes because I really like this person so much, so I waited for a phone call and weeks went by even months nothing. So as a joke I sent an invitation instead of calling to set up another one left all my numbers even email . When I got home I seen the person work number on my answering machine but sadly to say no message. New year and this person birthday rolled around again this time I sent a different more expensive gift, no phone call to say thank u like before. I have this person number because they gave it to me I can't for the life of me get my self to call . I m not sure what to do. Nobody knows how much I like this person because I don't want it to get back to this person. My biggest fear is that they are with someone and I am making a fool of myself. That is why I'm not getting any response back . Should I get up the nerve to call or move on .

it depends. if you havent seen or heard from this person the entire year, except for the one call to thank you, i would say they are uninterested and was calling to be poite. sorry but you should move on. if this is someone you see at work/school or something i would casualy ask them if they received your gift.
