Is it normal to see flashing colored letters to move on your book?

Well, I was in my room, reading this really long book for school. Then, suddenly, the letters on my book start flashing lots of colors, like annoying hair salon neon signs. I got freaked out and told my mom. She didn't stand doubt, she dragged me to the hospital. The doctors checked my eyes and said there was nothing wrong with me. Then I told them how it happened and they gave me a book (Moby Dick extended 1800 version, VERY boring and VERY long book.) I was reading it and nothing happened, then, suddenly, the black letters start shifting colors quickly very annoyingly. I tell the doctors
(they couldn't see them, so it was my problem. The doctors conclusion said I have dyslexia, or at least a rare new case of it, because such thing was never reported. When I read something on any physical surface for over an hour, my brain gets tired and distorts images I send it. The doctor said I will either go blind or loose my mental sanity (go mad) if I stare at these letters for long, my mom contacted school and told them to cut out the reading on me!! hurray! the thing she doesn't know is that I can see letters on a computer perfectly well for over an hour, for ever, actually. But if I tell my mom, she would tell the teachers to send me my reading through e-mail, does anyone know if this is dyslexia? The doctors classified it as dyslexia until they were certain of what this is, someone out there maybe can help.

Deffo scotopic sensitivity syndrome, or light sensitivity. Google it, my daughter had it and wore tinted glasses and they worked a miracle! There's nothing wrong with your eyes, it's the way the brain works with the eyes, glasses and overlays when you read fixes it

I get it too, it's just eye fatigue. You don't experience it with pcs because the screens flicker with the refresh rate.

Okay so it is called scotipic sensitivity disorder or irlen syndrome. Definitely read the wiki page and get yourself to a diagnostician!

This sounds a little like Synesthesia. I read a great novel about precieving colours or movement that associate with words and letter called A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass. Not exactly the same thing but similar I think.

It could also be a problem with the way your brain interprets light that causes words to melt off the page or rivers of colour to appear between the words. My brother has it and when he tells me the name of it I will let you know and you can get yourself tested.

  • That happened to me when i was a kid! The letters on the page started to move a little and i was like. Is this some kind of optical illusion book?? And i shut my eyes and looked again. I saw them moving but foor a few seconds it stays in place. I thought it was pretty kool. But now it stopped the doctor said i had a touch of dyslexia. Weird. So you probably have it.
