Is it normal to see and hear things?

I was told I had manic depression when I was in high school. Since then I took myself off my meds because I wasn't sure if I would have medical insurance after I turned 18. I have mood swings still but in the past few months I have noticed that I see things moving that I know are NOT moving. I will be watching tv in my room alone and hear a voice tell me I am worthless. I will never be good enough. I have been trying to keep a log of when I hear or see something but I don't always remember to write it down. I space out for blocks of time and can't remember what I was doing.

if you hear voices, have hallucinations, and are manic depressive then its called schizoaffective--a combination of schizophrenia and bipolar... my friend has it.

    talk to your doctor!

  • I was drunk and didn't fully read your post, I thought you just meant that you see things moving that aren't which I experience all the time and am not crazy. However, hearing a voice that tells you that your worthless is not normal at all. You may have schizophrenia or more likely schizoaffective since your also bipolar. If you get to a doctor now, you could probably get it treated fairly successfully since you don't seem that far gone yet. If you let it go for a long time, you could be permacrazy and everything could spiral out of control

It's possible (and surprisingly common) to be comorbid with both bipolar/manic-depression and a schizo-spectrum disorder. On the other hand, though you won't find this info in many psychiatric texts, it's also possible to hallucinate purely because of bipolar/manic-depression.

In summary, get to a doctor. This kind of thing doesn't get better on its own. If you're broke, look into government psychiatric care and try to get on SSI or SSDI disability (ssa.gov). That could net you Medicaid or Medicare which will make psychiatric care and medication cost little to nothing.

we that was pretty dumb to take yourself off your meds.. find out if you have insurance & if you don't get medicaid or something 'cause you def need to see a dr. if it is schizoaffective or schizo the sooner it's caught the better & the more effectively they can treat you.
