Is it normal to say "surf the web"

I'm a bit of a Geek and I work in an IT company but it seems a bit of a blast from the past when someone says "Surf the web for it". Like something left over from the AOL marketing campaigns in the 90s. I'm not sure if my boss is out of touch with tech or I'm out of touch with people.

So in sort, is it normal to say "'Surf' the web"? Or is not normal, ergo something your out-of-touch boss says?

    Definitely starting to sound old-timey, but still normal, I think. Though if somebody always used that phrase to describe web browsing, I would tend to think they were out of touch.

    I say "surf the web" on a regular basis. I must be out-of-touch with current lingo. But seems how I'm someone who was diagnosed with Asperger's, I'm no stranger to being out of touch with what's currently considered cool or uncool. B)

    I guess it does sound a bit old now. Times move on. I remember when hacking was something else completely and was actually a positive thing.

    It's normal. I just say that I've got to use the internet. I have no imagination when it comes to online, lol "Surf the web" is definitely better than allot of other terms.
