Is it normal to roll my eyes while talking
As of late, a pretty significant amount of people I've been talking to are bringing up this same exact point. Apparently, I do a lot of eye rolling while I'm talking. More specifically, rolling my eyes up in my head while talking.
About 4 or 5 friends have brought it up and then a few people I hardly speak to bring it up. I apparently do it a lot with speeches in front of class. (Apparently it's become a bit of a joke at my own expense that a LOT of people make. So it's EXTREMELY apparent that I do this.)
I thought maybe I don't do it all that much and that people were over exaggerating the amount of times that I do it and how "funny" it looks so I kind of just ignored it for a year or so.
Then today I was speaking to my dad and one of his friends about something and after the conversation ended he pulled to the side and clearly said this to me. "Let me ask you something. I've noticed you do a lot of eye rolling and facial movements when you speak to people. Why?"
This honestly surprised me. I knew I obviously HAD to be doing it some but I never really thought about how much. I ended up telling him I honestly didn't know why. In fact, that I don't even realize when I'm doing it.
This is when he said the thing that has me worrying.
"Well you need to figure out how to stop. It makes you look...funny."
Funny. That one word has me worrying my ass off.
The thing is, my dad uses that word for a lot of things. He might be saying it as in "You just look like a dumb ass, so stop." He might be using it as a substitute for the word gay. He could even be using it as a substitute as mentally handicapped or at least "You look like you have a disorder of some sort."
The thing is, I can't find ANYTHING on this. Well, that's a lie but the ONE thing I was able to find I'm really skeptical about.
So, I have to ask, is it normal to roll my eyes up in the back of my head SO MUCH that it makes me look "funny"?(What ever that usage may be.) Like I said it's not something I realize I do. It just happens.
People do point out another "weird" thin about me too if that would help figure it out. I apparently move my lips with out realizing it as well. (Only friends notice this one though.)
If it's not normal, does anyone have any idea at ALL as to what could be causing this? I'm open to any suggestions as long as they are actually serious. Especially if it's something I might need look into immediately.
It's worth mentioning people act like it's not just the "I'm thinking" eye roll.
