Is it normal to retire at 50?

My friends mother who is currently 49 keeps telling me she plans to retire at 50 and that shes lucky she saved up all these years (since age 25)..Her husband still works and I know he plans to work until hes at least in his late 50s, but he owns his own small computer business and he also works on and off for a company doing computer repairs.

I have no idea how much he makes but can it really be that much? She is an art teacher at a high school and teaches 5 days a week maybe 3-4 classes per day.

Any ideas and IIN? My mom cant retire until 66!

Also my friend still lives with her mom and they help her with 50% of expenses and she doesnt plan to move out for another 5 years.. so theyd have to pay for her too, no?

If I had managed to become a mailman in my early 20's, I could retire in about ten years from now.

I retired way to early. It's probably a bad idea.

  • WELL, yes it is normal to retire at any point you wish or desire, its their life and money.

we are work whores for the government never forget that. life was meant to live we have enough technology to be born and live life in absolute peace and relaxtion, and we could ponder things and be philisopical.

but unfortunately we have evolved to do as the man says and work til we die.

these stupid people that taught society its american to work. no its inhumane.

we live... then we die and for what so we can work for the federal reserce that is not even backing our money... honey youtube zeitgiest...

you need to be worried about the big picture not the people down the street. we need to all be on the same side.

its normal to be envious but turn it into a positive and use as motivation for something you want to achieve.

I would waste your time wondering. It's their business and their life to live.
