Is it normal to recognize a fellow countryman among foreigners?

I've been checking some profiles from dating sites (don't judge me!) and I've been able to notice almost without failure who is from my country (Brazil) and who is not, just by looking at their face. Even when there's tons of people of other countries. I'm like: 'Ha, Brazilian!', and I'm so right. I think it's normal, is it really though?

I've noticed this in that I can tell when someone is British. I'm American by the way. But something about the facial structure is different than americans.

I don't know how to describe it but like, Benedict Cumberbatch for example. He's a funny looking guy, not saying British men look funny but at the extreme end of the scale, that Cumberbatchish look is what I mean. Daniel Radcliffe is another with this look, it's not a bad look or anything, but I can tell he's British/English.

I'm the same way but opposite, I'm British and can always tell an American when I see one. I can't pinpoint how, but more of a style way, like the clothing, hairstyles and mannerisms.

I'm American and i can spot other fat tards a mile away. Not cause they are that fat, but cause their sweat smells of bacon and makes my tummy rumble

I'm a Colombian American of Spanish, German, Welsh and Scot -Irish decent and I'm good at spotting people of the same or similar ethnicity. I'm pretty good at spotting Germans when I see them, particularly of Bavarians decent. Also there's a certain attitude or vibe that Colombians tend to have that I can pick up on but I can't quite explain it. I'm also very interested in my Welsh heritage but other people of Welsh lineage seem to be better at spotting me than I am at spotting them. I don't think I'v been exposed enough to that part of my background.

I'm Canadian, and although I can recognize English, Irish, Scottish, and Australian people by their faces alone 9 times out of ten... I think Canadians are too mixed up this day and age. Although, I can definitely tell when someone is from my part of Canada, because it's less mixed here, most people are of Celtic decent. As for USA, I find southerners more recognizable as such in pictures than northerners where it's just as mixed in as Canada seems to be. I've tested myself on recognition lots of times. I get my friends to give me pictures of people, and I tell them where they're from. I'm pretty good with Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese too. Koreans are especially uniform looking to me. Muted video makes this even easier as you can almost tell someone's accent just by how they move their face when they talk. In general, the smaller the gene pool in a country, the easier it would be to recognize people as being from that country just by looking. So it stands to reason that urban areas of ethnically mixed countries like USA and Canada would be the hardest to pin-point certain "looks" in. I agree with the first poster as well. When I watch a British show, everyone on it just looks so.. British! It's not a bad thing, it's just there are more people with certain looks there, people who still look like "Jutes" and "Celts" and stuff. Not everyone will look British in Britain however, but probably at least 25 percent look very noticeably British to me.
