Is it normal to receive a gift from a guy on first meeting?

my friends wants to hook me up with their guy friend who I have not a chance to meet. Everytime he calls to meet up with me, I'm either busy or not a good time. he wanted to meet up with me last week before he went on a trip but I couldn't. According to my friends, he is really interested in me after he saw my pictures. Today he came back from his trip and said he has something to drop at my place. This would be the first time we are meeting one another in person. He gave me tons of spa stuff which are expensive. Is it normal to receive a gift from someone who likes me but have not date yet? Will my acceptance give him the impression that I am giving him hope/chance?

    I would be creeped out and turned off if a guy I'd never met bought me an expensive gift based on my picture alone. Seems way too desperate and forward to me. That doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't give it a try. Maybe he just doesn't have a lot of experience with women. But a spa gift seems kind of personal and intimate to me. I dunno, I find it creepy.

    I understand why you would feel awkward. But he's just being a man. Somehow he has decided that he would like to buy you expensive gifts.

    I think it's only polite to accept the gift. And if your friends think this guy is decent and nice enough, why not just go out on a date with him and see what happens next? If after one of two dates, you don't like him, then end it and that would be that.

    It is normal for you to feel awkward - because it is really rather forward of him. I guess you can try to set it aside and date and just see if you like him or not.

    There is a time and a place for gifts in dating, which is to express appreciation - not as a short cut to "buy" & presuppose approval and acceptance.
