Is it normal to put lotion on your face after every shower?

For at least 5-7 years now, I've been using lotion on my face after I get out of the shower. I don't remember why I started doing it but now it's like I have to. My skin always feels really taut and tight after getting out of the shower. Lotion soothes and relaxes my skin.

But lately I'm wondering if this is a bad thing. Can excessive lotion use end up harming me in the end? I used to justify it that it would make a huge difference in my aging by the time I'm 40. However it seems now that I'm dependent on the lotion and this seems like a very bad thing.

Anyone else have this habit? Does anyone know if this is a good thing or should I just stop using the lotion and see if my skin goes back to feeling normal after showers?

P.S. I've taken showers both WITH and WITHOUT water softeners.

Thanks!

I have that all the time, but i want to do it after i take my make-up off because my face goes all tight, and i can't go to sleep without doing it and i always thought that it was a good thing because i've never known moisturiser to do anything bad to skin, so just saying you're not alone:)

It's normal. Moisturizing prevents aging, on the contrary it helps your skin be more refined and soft. I do this every single time i get out of the shower and if i don't i literally have to get up off of bed at whatever time to put it on. It's just a habit, and luckily it's a great one. Don't worry, it's gonna pay off in a couple of years.

  • Using moisturising lotion after a shower is a really good things to do.

I heard it had something to do with the pores being open and it absorbs into the skin better. Either way, it can't do any harm.

Totally normal. It's actually good for your skin to do that after showers because the lotion is absorbed better and helps hydrate your skin which in turn helps to prevent/minimize the appearance of wrinkles. Try to use a face moisturizer with a SPF. I do it all the time.
