Is it normal to put a ridiculous amount of time into a pointless job?

So I got offered a job two months ago. I'd been bumming off of my father, mostly just driving him around, fixing things around the house, etc. Simple stuff to help. But I tired of mooching off him. I got a call from an uncle of mine from a less reputable side of my family, offering me a job. $100/day+ Room and board. I was promised a bed of my own, and a peaceful office to do data entry(all i was supposedly required to do)and whatever other basic necessities I needed. I am now entering data, work around 20-100 hours at a time, get screamed at for sleeping all day when and if I do manage to get any sleep in, I'm managing a fueling station, data entry, and also helping truck drivers fill out paper-work, all while trying to keep the office in somewhat workable conditions. I've purchased necessary appliances, food, and water for about a month now with the help of another co-worker. I haven't been paid in a month. I don't know what the hell to do. I can't leave being 3 grand out, it's not feasible. I don't have enough money to get anywhere else. What the hell do I do? Anyone else have problems like this? Is it "normal?"

Did you sign a contract when you started to work? If you're working for them but they aren't paying you, that's a major problem. Document all your time and demand that you're paid what they owe you. If they refuse, you may have to take them to court.

So far he's paying me minor amounts. Chalking up to about 1/3 of what he really owes me.

  • A month is far too long to go without payment.

Have you said anything to you uncle about getting paid? What does your father say about it? Have you told him?
