Is it normal to pursue a job that is not my passion?

I've been thinking about joining a nine month class that teaches you how to be a medical assistant. It's a very legitimate school with a high success rate. I'm seriously thinking about this not because I'd love to be a medical assistant, but because it seems like a fairly fast way to get into a good job with a comfortable income. I know I would be good at it, too. I'm very interested in biology and the sight of blood doesn't affect me. Still, it doesn't feel like my true passion.

I think I will continue my education in some other field after taking this class and getting the job. I just feel like taking this class will ensure that I always have a career to fall back on.

I voted 'no' only because I am in the medical field, and it is my opinion that if medicine does not interest you at all, that you will not be happy in this job. Make sure to do a ton of research before you waste your time/money:)

    • Oh, well it actually does interest me. I just think that maybe there's something out there that may interest me more. You are right though, it's something I need to look into a lot before I make a decision.

Money can be a good driver though, if the pay is significantly better than you would hypothetically be able to get for something you really enjoy it is a proper reason for many people to still consider such a career.
