Is it normal to punish yourself for thinking you are beautiful?

I am one of those people who thinks they are intelligent and gorgeous. I believe myself to be more intelligent and more beautiful than the majority of human beings. Because I feel this way, I punish myself by picking at the skin on my face until I'm not beautiful. After it clears up and I begin to think I'm beautiful again, I pick out of guilt for thinking I'm better than everyone else.

um.... Well... it is normal to find yourself attractive and more intelligent than others, but to pick at your face until you're not, isn't really something I've heard about. It sounds like you have something of a compulsive disorder. I'd get it checked out. Also, with the idea of you thinking you're better than everyone else.. that sort of attitude makes any person (no matter how attractive or smart) ugly. Change up your perspective on yourself and other people.

A good note is that you're conscious about what you're thinking and how you feel, so you're a step above most. I would recommend reflecting on your thought process, however. Intention self infliction is not healthy and can lead to serious self destructive habits.

No. It's not normal and what you're doing is self mutilation. I strongly recommend seeking professional help or at least confiding in someone you trust.

you should talk to a counseler. its normal to think these things and then create reasons to not think it. society teaches us to not be okay with ourselves.

  • I don't think I'm a better human being than most. But I think I am more attractive than most human beings and more intelligent.

Better is too general of a term to use.

I agree with the second poster... haha

Yeah I consider myself pretty and talented but know that when I put makeup on and straighten my hair, people look at me way different then to if I didn't bother. So I have messy hair and glasses and lame clothes and no makeup most of the time, so people see me for my personality, not my talent or looks. Then again when a prom comes up I make the effort and I look great.

If you want the outside to reflect the inside, you need to compensate in other ways then self harm. Because that definitely isn't normal.
