Is it normal to pretend that famous people are my siblings?

I like to pretend that all of my favorite actors and singers are my brothers. Right now I have about 40 imaginative brothers and I playfully talk to them in my head, imagining that they are standing right beside me. Is this normal? Does anyone else ever do this?

yes, it' basically like an imaginary friend, maybe you are lonely or not happy with how your friends are so you want someone(or more) that you can change and are fimiliar with.

I voted 'normal' only because I do it myself, not because I think its actually normal. Life can be so much more fun if you can mentally escape to your 'happy place' where everything is as you want it. Of course, I wouldn't go around announcing your fantasies to the world, you know? But I've had fantasies going for years at a time and you'd never suspect a thing. I say go for it, as long as nobody you know knows about it. AND as long as you're aware of the difference between fantasy and reality.

      Hiya,

I've done something very similar and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I've pretended famous people are my boyfriends before –- although one turned out to be gay and 2 died (in real life). They got “dumped” as & when my tastes changed.

I've done this since I was young, still love to do it now, and don't think I’ll be stopping any time soon. As long as you know what you're imagining isn't real you'll be fine.

If I thought about the fact that I'm single and how unlikely it is that this will ever change (due to circumstances) I dread to think what would happen. Even when/if I’m attached they'll still be part of my life, but probably not so important.

When I went to college everyone seemed to have family pictures up but me. I knew that if I did I’d be upset because I missed them. I had pictures of my favourite band members up instead. They're all older, & a lot of people my own age/older didn't recognise them – the comments I used to get used to crack me up!

If you like someone famous a lot & your family's distant (in either sense) you'll probably see pictures of that person/hear that person's voice more often than family because you'll have their CDs on all the time or their pictures up. It's sad and it shouldn't be that way but it is.

I think it's normal. I spent a little over a year pretending that Mia Wasikowska was my fraternal twin sister after becoming obsessed with Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland last year.
