Is it normal to pluck out your eyelashes?

I seem to be unable to stop plucking my eyelashes out, am I the only person that does this?

    Hey there,

Yes, I used to do that. It's a habit, just like biting your nails.

My eyelashes are very thick and long, and there's lots of them too, so they get loose and fall out a lot naturally and they often get into my eye when that happens, which is painful.

When I was about nine or ten I started pulling the loose ones out to prevent them falling into my eyes, and this soon became a compulsive habit. It was sort of like an urge to pull the loose ones out, and it wasn't painful at all because they were already just about to fall out anyway. So whenever I got the urge, I gently tugged my eyelashes and the loose ones would be softly pulled out.

I stopped doing it because soon I had hardly any eyelashes. My mum said that if I stopped pulling them and they grew back, she would buy me a small stick of mascara. So I broke the habit. It was very hard. The habit is very similar to biting your nails.

So anonymous author, that is my story. I consider your situation normal, because I know a few other people who have gone through the same thing. And I assure you I'm a completely normal, healthy, happy girl. And I'm happier because now I have my beautiful eyelashes back!

Also, there is a kid I went to school with who pulled his lashes and eyebrows in class and ate them. He definitely needed help, but I believe he did not get a whole lot of attention at home. Sad.

I do that too when I am reading. I think it calms me down after a long day. But you should see a doc. Tricitilliomania can be symptoms of larger problems, like ADD or depression.

It's called trichotillomania and it is a disease. If it bothers you, there are treatment options and medications. Talk to you dr.

I went to this camp a long time ago. This guy that was in the camp with me had no eye lashes at all. For he had pulled them all out. I didn't think it looked weird or anything. It was just how he was and I accepted him for it. Lol but that's just because he wasn't hag or anything and it went with his face. But if your unlucky then it would probably be pretty ugly and gross looking.

That's sick!! Not normal at all. I've never seen a person before without eyelashes. That's just freaky, man.
