Is it normal to play an instrument?

I realize that the art of playing such symphonic instruments is starting to die, or at least, that's how I see it. So how many of you play an instrument?

Saxophone 7
Clarinet 7
Percussion 1
Flute 8
Trumpet 6
Other 47

    Sure it's normal!

I play acoustic guitar usually, but there are others.

I suck at playing instruments, but I still occasionally practice with the piano. I also know how to play "Mary had a little lamb" on the recorder.

I played the flute in elemenrary / middle school. I was "1st chair", so I was pretty good at it :}. I still have it in my closet..the last time I brought it out, it looked like bronze o_O.

I play the trumpet, tuba, baritone, and trombone, very well. I am decent with the saxophone and clarinet as well but not the best.

Yes, but that doesn't count as an instrument I don't think lolz.

How come you didn't mention a guitar? I'm not talking about electric, I'm talking about the classical Spanish guitar.

    • I was leaning more towards woodwind ensemble, hence the symphonic. Sorry.

Then why not say Ocarina? I know people who still play it. But as you said instruments like Ocarina's are dying out.

        • Not to mention that an Ocarina isn't really a symphonic instrument, but yeah, I know what you're saying.

    • I play classical guitar, but not much of the Spanish style.

    Despite that, I can't play them:/

Hey mate. Good to see you. :) I'd like to come back, yeah. Depends on what reaction I get. All good, so far. :)

Is it just me or is the core group a lot smaller than it was? I seem to remember about a hundred or two hundred people that I'd have a little chat with, or a joke. Hope all your fellow countrymen are still around. You lot were always amongst my favourite people on the site.

Yeah, the core group has gotten a lot smaller, since you were last here. Lots of people have left, but at the same time a lot of cool new people have arrived and taken their spots :) Randomjelly came back the other day and asked where you went. She tends to come and go, she'd be stoked if you stuck around :) Did you get the last email I sent you?

Randomjelly? Wow. She was my heroine when I started on this site. Some of the things she said nearly made me wet myself. I miss her.

I did get the email and I keep meaning to answer but all kinds of things have been happening which have needed my attention. I've been a bad correspondent. :/ One of the girlfriends that I turned into a lesbian got in touch (out of the blue) around Christmas and I still haven't got back to her, either. Things are settling down, hopefully, and there'll be DannyMail and LesbiMail generated soon! :D

I love to sing too. Since my family is rather musical i can sing freely in my house its great. One must get over the embarrassment factor of singing and playing instruments to better them selves.

Hey who cares what they think they're family they should respect who you are.

Question do you completely stop singing when your family members waltz by or do you continue cause i tell you know if you continue singing you won't look as foolish as oppose to stopping your beautiful song.

    Yeah.
If I had more spare time, I'd take up playing an instrument. Hell, I'd take up foreign language too. But there are not enough hours in the day or days of the week.

  • Who_Fan4Life

Yes I am going to go there...the skin flute? I'm currently trying to learn the keyboard/piano.

Anyways, on a more serious note. I agree, it seems as though the playing of these instruments is dying (perhaps becoming less popular?). I think that if we start losing people playing these instruments, we are losing creativity in music (as if we haven't already lost creativity in music nowadays).

Talent is pretty much *poof* buh bye. Does anyone even try to learn how to play bass anymore? More John Entwistle, please. =>
I'm not one of those people who love everything Japanese, but at least they still try on their instruments. Even their pop-punk is more talented than ours.

I was just joking. Seriously though, I can't think of a poor country where the harmonica is popular. Here in Brazil it's pretty rare - the guitar is far more popular.
