My boyfriend and I do it when we are walking in a dry country area, or getting rid of the cigarette in a rubbish bin.
Here in the city, people look at us as if we are crazy. Surely they do not think that a few leaf and paper embers will burn our fingers!
I am a smoker n I always knock the end off my cigarette with my fingers n I have been doing it for years n put the filter in my back pocket.
Sometimes I'll get a kind of hard discolored callus forming on my thumb and index finger tip. Have to remove it with a razor blade or it starts to really gross my wife out. So I try not to put my smokes out with my fingers so often.
My boyfriend prefers my fingers callused than me having dirty ash marks on my denim jeans. I think that he even prefers me pinching cigarettes out to me stubbing them against his leather jeans. I assume that your wife is a non smoker and trying to get you to quit.
I have never tried that, standing on one leg and trying not to let any sparks fall onto the dry grass or carpet sounds a bit difficult. On the weekends I sometimes use the side of my jeans or denim shorts to stub it and when we are at a party I have also used my boyfriends leather jeans a few times. You can imagine how he reacted!!!!
