Is it normal to peel mushrooms?

I normally peel the skin of mushrooms but know some people who don't and just wash them instead. Btw I'm referring to button and chestnut mushrooms and the like, not something differently shaped like flat Oyster ones. So IIN?

All the healthy stuff is in the skin! There's no harm in peeling them, obviously buy it is way more beneficial to leave the skin on

well although most people wash mushrooms your really not supposed to because mushrooms absorb the water and the excess water can ruin some of your fave recipes, though i dont "peel" the mushrooms before i cook with them i usually scrub them well with a paper towel (or mushroom brush) to get the access dirt off but cause the mushroom skin is so soft the parper towel alone kinda peels of most of the thin layer of outer skin :) any ways in a nut shell i think its pretty normal

I used to peel them but I never bother any more. I often don't peel potatoes either, even if I'm making roasties or mash.

  • It's less wasteful to just wash them.

I've NEVER peeled a mushroom before, but I used to peel grapes.
