Is it normal to own a lot of shoes? how many do you own?

I'm a girl, and I actually don't own a lot of shoes. Many of my friends that are girls own a LOT of shoes, it's not even funny. I own only about 3 or 4 pairs of shoes that I'll actually wear.

How many shoes do you own?
Also, is it different for guys? I'm quite curious.
Please tell me what gender you are and how many shoes you own, it's something that could be quite surprising and interesting.

    Male, two pairs. I could do with more for the sake of practicality, but I don't see the point in having more than 5 or 6. 1 pair of canvas shoes, 1 pair of trainers that I only bought because my old trainers were literally falling apart around my feet. I'm aggressively anti-consumerist when it comes to shoes :P

    Update: After a little over 2 years...I can say I own a LOT more now. I finally get the shoe obsession.

    1 pair of trainers, 2 pairs of Vans, 1 pair of old trainers, 1 pair of out-out shoes, 1 pair of converses, 1 pair of wellies. I need work shoes!
    7 pairs, i only really wear my trainers though.

    I used to live with this crazy Asian chick, no joke she had BASKETS full of shoes. She was only 21, I had no idea how she accumulated so many in such a short time. She easily had about 80 different pairs of shoes.

    Jesus I'm a freak. This question excited me because I'm a shoe whore - started counting and stopped myself at 184 pairs. Seriously. Fuck balls that's a lot of money. They are all high end so perhaps it's time to sell some and take a fucking vacation to Bali and be barefoot on a beach for a while.

    Two pairs of sneakers and three pairs of high heels that I hardly ever get to wear :( they are pretty much for weddings, funerals and court.

    I have 17 pairs, I think.

    Blue canvas shoes, two pairs of flipflops (one black, on pink), huaraches, black vibram fivefingers, white and blue tennis shoes, black boots with small heels, black platform boots, weird little black flats, shiny black Mary Janes, red Mary Janes with little cats on them, black pumps with black roses, bright purple pumps, hiking boots, cute little black flats, these huge black Sketchers I got when I was like 12, and handmade gillies for the wedding.

    Male, used to have a LOT.. like 15-17 pairs easily. Tossed half of my older stuff. A lot of it are running shoes/trainers (job). I even have a really nice pair of cowboy boots, but I really don't wear it much since I moved to the east coast.

    Two pairs of boots (one for walking, one with steelies for working), two pairs of trainers, six of seven pairs of smart shoes. No wellies at the moment, but I was thinking of buying some.

        Ahh, I've got such a varied job that there are times I enter environments where I need protective gear (mostly a high-vis jacket, hard hat, and steelies and, in other parts of my job, I need protection from biological agents, and also from live animals (some of which may be carrying illnesses harmful to humans). We have a double steel cage (a cage within a cage) which surrounds an elevator shaft, so the lift opens into the inner cage. I always feel like James Bond when I use it.

            It's way too hard to explain. I would love to be a butcher or policeman or welder. Something that can be summed up in one word. I don't really have a job title.

    I usually wear the same pair of shoes every day, my sturdy walking shoes. My shoes must be functional and I will not buy them if I cannot walk at least a mile in them comfortably. And they are seasonal. I exchange the rain boots for sandals in the summer. I have four pairs that I wear with any regularity plus one pair of dress shoes.
