its ok to hate rap (i fucking do) but screamo isnt fucking metal, its just as talentless as rap.
Yes, it's normal to listen to just one type of music. I for instance only listen to eighties pop music.
i have always been into rock music, but i somewhat like classic country too. Its normal for peoples tastes in things to change, thats a part of being human.
I'd say it's normal to make switches like that...especially in you early teens, although I don't know your age. I remember liking country radio for a short time as a kid, and then friends got me into some SOAD, Korn, A7X, etc. Heavy Metal was my portal into Metal music, and now I like most metal music but mostly black metal. Change in interests and taste is normal, but as you said it's typically gradual.
I used to like rap as well when I first really got into music but then it got old (same beat, money, sex, and drugs) and so after a month I hated it and I started listening to alternative music, then rock, and now metal or hard rock. I still like just plain rock as well though, just not as much. Even though it's the most popular music, I never liked pop.
I've been through pretty much every genre there is, depending on how old I was at the time. One thing tends to lead to another and your tastes change. The best thing about it is that I can listen to any of those genres now and am transported back to the person I was then, because it's encapsulated in time.
Music is wonderful stuff. Enjoy!
