Is it normal to only 'drink' to get 'drunk'?

First of all let me just give a bit of backstory and views;
Im 19, male and live in England, I only drink alcohol when Im going to a party or to town on a night out.

If we goto the pub I wont drink because I see its a waste of money to buy alcohol because I honestly think if youre going to drink alcohol, you might aswell get drunk, theres nothing fun about being sat by yourself or with one person drinking I think its only good to be out with people at a party, or if were going to the pub to get drunk, not to "ooo ill have a glass of wine and go" WHY?!

IS that a normal train of thought?

Like i said I only drink on social occasions which are usually either friday night and saturday night, so its not an excuse of a premature alcoholic :)

I am the same way man. My friends think it's "cool" to drink on every single occasion when ever possible. We go out for lunch, they all order beers. I don't see the point unless I'm going to get hammered.

I don't really get it either, it's not like beer, wine or straight liquor taste very good. It's not refreshing. I'd save a few bucks and just get a soda if I'm not planning on hanging out a while.

Yeah i hate those fags who say bullshit like "i only have a glass of wine with dinner". Some People think its stupid or immature to drink to get drunk. But getting drunk is the only reason to drink because only an alcoholic likes the taste of alcohol, so anyone who says "i only drink 1 glass of wine at dinner" is an alcoholic in denial.

But you know 1 drink is sometimes enough to make me feel better, other times i drink 10 and vomit in the gutter and have people muttering under the breath about me

Funny, bc alcoholic beverages were originally for refreshment, not drunkenness. Water carried diseases, and liquor was easily made and stable for storage and transport.

Plus, im pretty sure we can have differences of opinions without the insults. But whatever, guess I'll just be amused when i next see you passed out in the gutter with piss all over yourself.

I disagree that having a glass of wine with dinner makes someone a closet alcoholic. for two reasons, one, a single glass of wine is a healthy complement to dinner, even recommende4 by physicians. two, being able to stop after one is a way to know ur not, bcuz once alcoholics have one, they HAVE to have ten.

I'm American and I don't really drink. Don't get me wrong I like margarita's... well I really love them. But I'm a firm believer that if I'm drinking, I'm drinking to get drunk. No glass of wine w dinner crap. I'm on a mission. It's a waste of money otherwise. Needless to say I totally agree with u!! I enjoy my once a year drinking binge. Lol

Yes, I think I understand what you mean! And I would like to add to ThisIsNotMe that if it is our only way to have fun with our friends, it's wrong but to my mind it's not that without alcohol we have no fun with our friend, it's just that with alcohol we have another kind of fun with them.

I don't drink, mostly because I'm underage and because it tastes like crap... but I've always thought that if you need to get drunk to have fun with your friends, you're doing it wrong. But if you enjoy it... Why not?

I don't really like getting drunk but a light buzz in enjoyable. And some wine and beer is really tasty, Deschuttes Black Butte Porter is one of my favorites.

It's a very British thing to only start drinking when you know you're going to finish the job. Most of the rest of Europe have a much healthier relationship with alcohol. I'm not criticising you, by the way. With my past, I couldn't. I completely understand the attitude.

if you drink all the time though its so much easier just to have another then after an afternoon of that your tanked up and dont feel like stopping. long and short your more likely to be wasted and having a night out after going out for just a beer. it all changes when you get older though, energy is way more important than intoxication.

I do they do we all do it for the same reason! To get drunk and have a good time. Dont bother with the IIN to when you can answer it for yourself. Like you said only on the weekend...not an acholic:) You still have plenty of time to decide if drinking is wrong or right. for now have fun. And drink one for me d(-_-)b

  • Most people drink alcohol just to seem grown up. If you asked someone "what does alcohol taste like" and they answered you truthfully they would tell you it tastes like piss. Im more of an orange juice type of guy.

You'll get over it. I only drank to get drunk but now I'm older an don't drink at all.
