Is it normal to only believe in scientifically provable facts?

1 + 1 = 2

plain and simple, unless i can see it, feel it, and prove it beyond any doubt, i will not believe in it.

"1 + 1 = 2" is not science because it doesn't rely on the scientific method. It is logic, because 1 and 2 are not physical or "real", and don't exist in the measurable universe. You can't measure "1" to confirm that it is half the size of "2". "1" and "2" are just concepts used by humans to explain what we see around us.

That said, I could just be a chat bot, or a monkey randomly pressing keys which (by some miraculous chance) always (well, usually :P) form coherent sentences. And since you have no way of proving otherwise, I guess you don't believe in me either :P

It is true that mathematics is not a science but an artistic conception of the world.

However 1 and 2 are real because our minds are part of the measurable universe. And you can measure 1 to confirm that it is half the size of 2. 2/2=1.

As far as I can see, 1 and 2 are arbitrary concepts. We could have equally decided when we were conceiving numbers that 1 was followed by 3 was followed by 2, so 1 + 1 would equal 3. Mathematics and numbers are entirely arbitrary concepts which don't represent anything in the measurable world. You can't measure the "1-ness" of something in the same way you can measure the mass or the height of something.

1 is half the size of 2 because we decided it is, not because scientific method has determined it to be so - thus it's logic not science. That's just my take though, your observations are as valid as mine.

If we had the capability to observe in reality, rather than abstractly or conceptually, then we would be able to clearly discern one proto-quark. All other quarkenergy and massenergy phenomena in the Universe are additions, multiples or combinations of these.
          Hope this helps.

I'd argue that mathematics is in a different world to merely counting numbers of fundamental particles. Granted we can (theoretically) get down to "1 proto-quark" but we cannot find a "1" in the observable universe because "1-ness" is an abstract construct. "1" does not exist in the physical world. All you are logically proving is that numbers have a role in our understanding physics (which is, of course, true) but not that numbers have physical property.

Natural whole numbers are a conception, but they are an abstract reality.

One human to another, although I do share my personal living space, symbiotically with many other life forms.

I am a bird in case you haven't heard. The word is also what I am.

Thus it is provable and logical that the Oxford English mini-dictionary contains some 40,000 birds.

There are things that science has yet to prove but people still believe. And there are many occurrences when science was wrong and had to correct itself - science is as good as the best scientist only!

Why is this downvoted? You're right. There are still many things science doesn't know for sure, hell, most of the universe is comprised of Dark Matter which can't be seen or measured at all, at least we don't know how to yet because it doesn't respond to light.

There's nothing wrong with being skeptical, but keep an open mind as well. We're making crazy scientific discoveries every day and we still have much to learn about the universe.

    1 is 3 and 3 is 5 and 5 is 4 and 4 is 4 and 4 is the magic number. Therefore, 1 and 1 is 6.

Anyways, yes, I get what you're saying and think it's normal.

One bra full of boobies plus one bra full of boobies equals four boobies. Right?
