Is it normal to only be an alcoholic with beer

I've recently discovered how awesome it feels to not drink like a fish all the time, and I'm enjoying my daily glass of red wine before bed. Sometimes I'll drink liquor on special occasions, but I don't usually overdo it.

BEER, on the other hand, particularly if it's 6% or higher, will get me VERY intoxicated, very impulsive, and emotionally volatile. It makes me euphoric and also prone to emotional breakdowns. Wine and liquor, which are supposed to be stronger, don't give me the same euphoria, and I don't usually feel like a second drink.

Who else has this idiosynchratic relationship with beer?

Different alcohol effects us differently due to the expectations we have. I.e if you believe wine will make you violent then it probably will have that effect.

There's no reason for me to expect this. I've always been told the opposite, and it took me years to figure it out.

Alcoholism is the addiction, the physical and emotional dependency on alcohol.

Being emotionally volatile after getting hammered on beer isn't being an alcoholic.

But anyway, I've heard lots of people say they act differently depending on the alcohol they've drunk. There isn't any scientific evidence to support this as far as I'm aware. But it isn't unusual for people to think that their behaviour is affected by their choice of alcoholic beverage.

You heard about that powdered alcohol you can snort like coke?

    • I've heard of palcohol, but I didn't know you could snort it.

As far as thinking my behavior is affected, it is partly because I tend to choose beer when I'm planning to drink a lot. But there is a tangible difference between beer and liquor, even if I drink more liquor.

Maybe "alcoholic" is too strong of a word, but I do have a harder time stopping after one or two beers, and I have to avoid it most of the time.
