Is it normal to occasionally smell something that's not there

occasionally, i smell cigarette smoke. I've heard of people smelling burnt toast when they're having a stroke, but i smell cigarette smoke. or at least something close to it. I don't smoke nor do i associate with or go anywhere that has smoke. it will just come out of the blue and it lasts at least a couple hours. very strange

    bullshit, alex.
it's probably our subconscious. maybe not even that. your brain makes a mistake and/or remembers something and for a moment it gives the signal for that smell. it is really nice when you smell the odor of a person you really like. had that many times when something suddenly remembers me to them ;) it's awesome.
    so, normal

Some people say you can smell spirits or ghosts but not actually see them when they are around you. So it may have been a person who was a smoker..just putting that out there

I occasionally smell peanut butter. No one else smells it, but it's overpowering to me.
