Is it normal to obsess over my health?

A few months ago, I had the stomach bug... Ever since then I've been obsessive over getting sicknesses that involve vomiting. The second I feel sick, I start to panic, and sometimes take tums. My mother says that I'm overly obsessive with it. I try to read up on all the symptoms of vomiting sicknesses to know If I may have it. My mother says I go through this stage on and off ever since I was five, because my mother got the stomach flu the same time as I did, and she couldn't take care of me. Is this normal?

The best thing you can do is go to your doctor and tell him about your health anxieties. He can do a series of tests such as blood work, ct scan, etc. This way you can see for yourself if you really do have a sickness along with certain risk factors, or it can reveal that you are in general good health. Either way it will be good. If you find out you really are sick you can get the prompt medical treatments you need, thus nipping it in the bud, or you can find out you're perfectly healthy so you can just move on and put this behind you. Afterwards, if you still find yourself stressing over the same issue after it's been cleared up, the doctor may suggest to refer you to a mental health specialist. Sometimes there is an underlying emotional problem that causes the patient to obsess over their health that might need to be addressed. Overall, it is normal to practice good hygiene and food safety/cleanliness to prevent pathogens and foodborne illnesses, but it is not normal to obsess over it to the point where it interrupts your life and/or relationships.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm terrified of getting vomiting sicknesses as well. It quickly developed into full-blown OCD. I don't obsess over it anymore ever since I started taking psychiatric medication (Lexapro in case you're curious).

It's normal IMO, so long as you are healthy that's fine. You're probably scared of having to deal with sicknesses or diseases.
