Is it normal to not want to trust anyone?

If you were to meet me, you'd most likely get the impression that I was friendly and outgoing. I even look friendly. I am, but underneath it all I'm highly distrustful and suspicious of peoples' motives.

It is a VERY rare thing for me to let anyone in. I recently tried to,
but it was a disaster, and now more than ever, I trust people even less. With the exception of my best friend and my mother, I assume that everyone is going to fuck me over and I keep everyone at a distance. Having walls is safer than allowing myself to be hurt by others' carelessness.

Is this normal?

I'm almost 30 years old. The feeling gets stronger as I get older.

Last time I trusted someone I was 19. I remember how when we were chillin or when we meet up we'd always be saying "I've got your back" etc. etc. Lol...that dude left me hanging when I was defending him with a couple of dudes (who had messed with him before).

Some people want to be trustworthy, but are just chicken livered. Never trusted anyone since. No point really...you never know what someone will do to you or for you when you're in a tough position. Stick with family...much better luck there usually

I'm at that point in my life, again -__- .. I only trust one person and I've only known him for about 4 months, but we've been through a lot. Everyone besides him can kick rocks for all I care..

I feel the same way about people. I trust my pets more than people.

I think it depends on the person you are confiding in and with what information. I think that anyone can be trusted with certain things, but no one can be trusted with everything.

  • If you have been hurt in the past, I can understand why you'd be mistrustful of people. It's also normal to get stuck in your ways as you get older.
