Is it normal to not want to know about your favourite band ??

Hiya,

I had a favourite band a few years ago, & if you asked me anything about them I’d know. Ages, favourite bands/foods/films, where they lived (not exactly but the county they lived in)

Then I woke up one morning, & though I still liked them, it wasn't half as much as before. The strong enthusiasm I had for them still hasn't come back.

My current favourites happened to be childhood favourites as well –- they were the first band I ever took notice of. I didn't even know what their names were (needless to say I do now)

I thought they were mythical creatures as a child because they were that good – & I'll be very sad when I have to wake up to a world where they no longer exist, which will probably be sooner rather than later as they're all a lot older than me -– they're all in their early 60s & I'm 30 soon.

I know next to nothing about them as people, & I don't want to. If I want to know about a story in one of their songs I’ll look it up, but usually all I want to know is whether they are touring & if I can get there before they call it a day.

is it normal to change so drastically – not the music taste but the desire to know about the band ??

    Hiya,

They're only well-known in certain circles, they're the type of band you've got to be raised hearing I think. They don't seem to have a lot of memorabilia, but perhaps that's a good thing. Not that I’d sell it if I had any.

    Don't. Just don't.

Re: going onto something else, I don't think I will, but then I said that about tons of artists.

Now's your chance to buy up all the memoribilia and crap attached to the band. If they're in their 60's they might not last long (having lived a hard life of sex, drugs, rock & roll). Prime money making opportunity. By the time they kick off you'll be onto someting new anyway.

    Hiya,

Thinking about said band as mythical would be more fun anyway. They're in their early 60s & probably really boring in real life. I don't want them to be boring; I want them to be good! Knowing everything about a band eats into valuable listening time.

    Yeah.

I didn't know shit about The Doors until I watched the movie about it, with Val Kilmer as Jim Morrison last Sunday when I was at my uncle's house.

I think, feel, that for some reason, what the artists want us to really know about them and to REALLY appreciate, will be their music, not their hair or their favorite book. They talk to us through their music, and that is all I need to know about them.

Hell, there are some songs that I love while never knowing more than a few songs from that band. All I give a fuck about is the music, to be honest. The Doors seem to have a lot of music that I give a fuck about though.

I had no care for the personal lives of the members of bands I liked, not even their names. That was until I was wearing a t-shirt with a bands name on it, and someone asked me who the lead singer was. I said "sorry, I can't remember" (which was true), and it was perceived as weird to care enough about a band to wear clothes with their name on but not know even the most obvious facts about their members.

Now, I think it can be useful to know a little bit about a band and specifically their song-writer/s because it can give you a deeper understanding of the meaning of the song.

Yes. I used to be like this and now I can't even remember the albums in order or care what they're up to, no passion :/

I've never cared much about the personal lives of the bands i love. If they're good enough, I can get the best sense of them through their art. The rest is just a load of benign information that i don't need floating around in my head. Make way for real knowledge.

I was a fanboy myself... You know, one of those kids who can take bands with like 10 studio albums and name the release years and and all the live recording locations.

Nowdays I just play the music I like, occasionally read a quick bio, and that's about it.

    Yup, I think it's normal.

When I was in highschool, I wanted to know EVERYTHING about bands I liked. Fuck, down to favourite colour of the band members.

Now, I don't give a fuck about the band themselves (long as they're happy and healthy, of course), I just want to hear the music.

It's the same with comedy, for me as well. Live comedy is a major source of entertainment for me, but I don't want to know all the details about comedians lives. I just want to sit down, laugh for an hour, and go home. This has been complicated by the fact my best friend has been dating a comedian for a couple of years, and so through him, we meet a lot of local (and a few bigger) comedians I really like. Or we hear stories about their actual lives, and what they're like as people. And I hate it! I don't want them to be 'real' people, I just wanna laugh at the funnies :(

I like for my favorite bands to be depressed and ill :)
