Is it normal to not want to be around people?

I have always been a shy and quiet person. I work with middle school children and elementary children throughout the day. I am divorced and raised my 2 children alone. My children are now off to college and doing well for themselves. I don't like being around people. When I come home after work, I just want to go home and not talk to anyone. I am really anti-social. I don't really care about anything. I just want to come home and shut the door behind me and veg. I just like being alone with my own thoughts. Is this normal behavior for a 53 year old woman?

I feel the same way. After being around people all day, dealing with all the different personalities, mood swings, and abuse, by the end of the day ive had enough and just want to crawl under a rock. The least thing i want to do when i leave work is be around more people !!! Thats my take on it .

Maybe because your agoraphobic. When I'm alone I get a cool sensation, when I'm in a crowd I feel sick, dizzy and anxious and get an oddly high temperature. I also lose my patience.

  • I hate being around people as well. Especially people I dont know. If you work a job, raised 2 kids, and completely support yourself then you can do what you want in your spare time. Its your spare time after all.

If you like being alone then be alone. I much prefer it myself.

i feel the same way. I dont like being around people because i feel pressured that people are trying to make me social, when i just am not a social person
