Is it normal to not want anal sex as a young gay man?

I'm gay and like to consider myself a slut, I 'hook up' with a lot of people. But I actually haven't had anal that many times, in fact I actively avoid it because I've had negative experiences in the past, both topping and bottoming. I am still very horny, I enjoy anything else that's sexual, so I don't think I'm asexual. I've tried to bottom a number of times but it always hurt so much that I'd instantly call it off. And when I've tried topping It was hard for me to stay hard. I want to change this because I have a fairly good butt and ok dick i've been told, and I've lost a number of guys that I've been interested in because I didn't want sex. Any suggestions appreciated.
