Is it normal to not understand why he/she had to mention the price?

The customer IS an idiot by what the poster said, but by the snobby tone at the end, I wouldn't be surprised if the situation was completely different and the poster embellished parts of it. You can cram your high-end camera up your hind end.

IIN?

Yeah, I don't believe that is an accurate reflection of a real event. Apart form anything else, you'd be a bad manager if you were so sarcastic to an ill customer not matter how bad the customer's attitude was. Sounds like the person writing this is saying what they wish the floor manager actually did, not when really happened.

I can't believe they'd get a discount because of the so-called "hassle" either. If you can get a discount by having another customer cause trouble, a friend and I could go around all the shops in town picking up discounted goods by taking turns causing "trouble". If you can really get money off expensive goods that way I've got my weekend planned out. But why would a company be so concerned about keeping one customer, the writer, happy that they give a discount for no good reason, but be openly rude to another customer?

And, as you said, the writer sounds very snobbish and self-righteous.

Perhaps this situation did happen because there are tons of people out there that do the darndest things. I was a cashier for four years, trust me I know. I definitely agree with you though, that it probably played out way differently and this story was most likely exaggerated. It's obvious that the person writing it made up lines as well because the angry customer and the floor manager both happened to say "have been stood there" which to me, is odd. But maybe a lot of people say that? I don't know.
