Is it normal to not try to guess who the op is?

There's nothing wrong with guessing who it is, or at least I don't think there is <- maybe some would disagree with me there, who knows.

I get squeamish about it myself.
In some ways, I feel like it's an invasion of a user's privacy to try and guess who has written an is it normal story or poll, even to myself.

In other ways I think it's a futile effort since there are oodles of similar personalities and writing styles going on here. is it normal tends to draw in a specific types of people: introverts, above average intelligence, animal lovers, depressed, horny, open-minded, etc.

Over the years I've seen lots of other users say they can guess who it is, but honestly, I don't bother. Maybe I'm only being lazy. I typically treat every story like it's fresh and written by a total stranger. There are patterns, I see them, but I dislike piecing them together to destroy that person's anonymity.

I often forget that the posters and the users are the same people.

I'm constantly aware that a large number of the OPs will be regular commenters, but I can't usually guess who they are and I agree, it feels like a bit of an invasion of privacy to try. Part of the appeal of the site is anonymity, and if you start guessing the OPs that ruins part of the point.

I don't try to guess. I care more about the post than the poster.

  • All of mine are pretty easy to spot usually. Being a neo-Nazi means I can usually easily be spotted for my beliefs haha

  • Funny thing about this topic...

Awhile ago I submitted a poll and continued my dialogue with posters "anonymously," when another user copied and pasted my profile and mocked me. She tried to delete it and change what she said, but I had already seen it at that point.

I thought it was rather strange to be so obsessed with who the OP is...

  • Well. I'm told that my writing style is fairly unique so whenever I do write a thread the older posters know it's me.

But no, I don't make a habit of discovering the OP. Why should I?

Weirdly, I've just tried to guess who you are. But, in general, no... I don't guess who the OP is. If it's obvious, it's obvious, but I'd never make it obvious for anyone else. People are entitled to privacy.

    I think you're absolutely right.

I've never considered it, but I generally treat each post as if it were a new member's first.

    odd.

maybe its just me, but i noticed mine tend to be different sometimes. my comments are usually wordy, but my stories are not always as wordy.

How would you ever know who wrote something unless they told you they wrote it?
