Is it normal to not trust your friends and family?

I don't like it when they make drinks for me, make me food, or touch my laundry. I am paranoid that they are somehow going to poison me by doing this. When i am riding in a car with someone, I am scared they're going to stop the car and kick me out and leave me there. I have to sleep with my door locked at night because I'm scared my parents are going to kill me. Is this normal? Do other people have thoughts like this or do I need serious help?

No. It sounds like you have paranoid delusions. You should see a doctor about it. It must be terrible to always feel afraid like that.

thank you for your opinion. i dunno if i should tell my doctor, but i'm scared they're gonna lock me up or something and that if they diagnosed me with this, that it would prevent me from getting a good job in the future. i have my first therapy apt coming up. if you think it's so serious, i guess i should tell them.

Sorry- I didn't mean to scare the shit outa you or anything. I'm not a doctor, so I can't tell you exactly what the problem is, but I am familiar with the law. In most countries, they won't lock you up anywhere unless you pose an imminent threat to yourself or other people (like if you showed up at the hospital after self harming or a suicide attempt), and even then, they can only put a 72 hour hold on you in the US, so, you won't get locked up or anything unless it's extremely, extremely serious, and even then, your medical records are completely private and confidential, so it wouldn't effect your ability to get a job or anything like that.

Listen, it could be something really simple, like mild OCD. My bother's best friend suffered from Tourette's and OCD growing up, and he had a lot of intrusive thoughts about people trying to hurt him, but he had a doctor, and knew the thoughts were irrational. Now he's a college professor at an Ivy League school working towards his PHD in biology and doing really cool field research with animals.

My point is, it's totally possible to move past problems like this. It's not going to destroy your life if you get some help with it. You seem to be fully aware that thoughts like this are irrational and not normal, and I can't imagine that they make you happy. There is nothing wrong with telling a doctor about something like this.

I hope everything works out. Good luck.

it's okay, I've processed it. I just always told my parents, and they said it was normal. I never asked anyone else because they're my parents so they should know right? but it's been so bad lately that I'm starting to question it. It is good to know they can't access my medical records if I am diagnosed and this is for sure what I have. I'm not gonna hurt anyone so I guess I'm good. Thank you so much for your input and kind words.

I might suggest that if someone cooks Barracuda for you, they are indeed trying to kill you. Avoid anyone offering you Barracuda for dinner.

Why do you feel the need to make a joke out of people's mental disorders? Im not going to be an asshole to you here, unlike everyone else, but I think it's uncalled for to make a joke about someone suffering from this type of problem.

Whether you think it's funny or not, serious mental disorders are real, and I think it would be pretty horrific to live in constant fear, under the delusion that you can't trust anyone around you, and that people are trying to kill you. I find offensive humor to be funny, but this is not funny. This person is clearly suffering and is probably miserable. Grow some empathy.

Nope, I have never done drugs or been put on any sort of medication like that... the only thing I take is melatonin for sleep.
