Is it normal, to not trust what you are perceiving?

Every so often i have this feeling that i cant trust or "believe" what i am visually looking at. Like ill look at the texture of an object, say a rock or even a napkin but i feel the need to touch the object in order to verify its texture/the way it feels. I know how it should feel when i touch it.... But i have the urge to confirm how it feels. This happens with the scent of objects too... Does anyone else have the same experience with needing to confirm what you perceive?

it sounds a bit like delusional disorder, but i'm not sure i have enough information or knowledge to say that.

sometimes i have moments where i don't believe i am currently in the present, and everything i experience at this moment is the brain looking back on past memories in the future. this thought first occurred to me while i was high. i've researched and learned that there is a slight delay in the mind when processing reality through the senses, which might have been exacerbated by the drugs.
it's not a serious concern unless you become so focused on disproving your perception of reality that the rest of your life is effected.

  • Sounds like you're trying to lucid dream by questioning reality. Do you lucid dream much? If you do the fact that you question reality is the reason why.
