Is it normal to not thumb up good comments for this reason?

Sometimes even when I really like a comment I don't thumbs it up. Why? Because I like it's placement and I don't want it to move. Don't get me wrong, I like that most thumbs up is on top but I feel that some comments are best left where they are.

yeah i understand. i liked it how it was a while back where comments were placed as they were typed. sure people can "reply" to a comment but its just not the same.

I think you should vote it if you like or dislike it regardless of the placement.

But what do i know i'm just a wandering fool.

That's interesting. Placement of the comments has never mattered to me since I read them all anyway. Why does it matter to you; do you just find it aestetically pleasing or what?

    • I'll just be scrolling through comments (I usually read all of them too) and its like: good comment, good comment, not so good but thumbed up, neutral comment, neutral comment, neutral comment, and then "hah! That comment is hilarious" and i want to thumb it up but my dry sense of humor tells me not to. So i suppose it is the aesthetics.

Thank you for telling me about how you grate cheese. I was about to ask.

I did not realize that voting something up would change the placement of them. Are you sure about this?

Yep. The order of the comments are initially first comment on top, last on bottom. When you vote comments up or down, it overrides that order so that the comment with the most thumbs up are on top and thumbs down are on bottom.

I never noticed that. I will be watching for this.

Some people, I'm sure; would thumb peoome down in an attempt to move themselves up. /: its happened to me before, it was a troll that did it.

        Comment Hidden ( show )
    • I would never do that. I'm far too modest. I usually don't think about the placement of my own comments. Except when I occasionally feel bad when my comment is placed over one that i think is better.

How do you deal with the placement of the first comment? Is it the top or the bottom?

    • I like it because its ironic.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
  • I don't even use the thumb option. From what I've seen it has no bearing on the quality of the comment, often quite contrary actually.

I'll actually thumb a comment back up/down to it's previous position for the sake of readability if someone has made comments/replies in sequence without using the reply button to nest it properly in the chain.

Any other reason, I don't care. I'll thumb up the comments I like and thumb down the comments I don't regardless of their placement.
