I didn't the first or second time. It's not needed. Just a waste of money. The nurses and doctors tell u to breath and push so why spend hundreds of dollars to have some crazy person tell u the same thing?

    Hello there!

I've never heard of 'lamaze' classes - are they just a term for anti-natal classes?
I'm in Ireland so we might not have heard of the same things, perhaps.

I never went to any classes when I was pregnant; neither did my mum.
I had twins, and most twin mothers have epidurals - but I didn't. I was 18, it was my first time (and last!!!!!!!) and I wanted to be on the ball to experience it!

I just know that at the hospital, I asked my midwife if 'I was going to die?' and she laughed and shook me off with a hearty 'good God no, you're more likely to get hit by a bus'!
Seeing I was still pretty panicky, she gave me some easy breathing excercises to practice - and my husband, he was terrified!

Personally I had a great, easy and chilled-out pregnancy - I began mild labour at about 3:30 (I was at my husband's granddad's funeral, so I waited until after the wake at 5:00!) and we ended up whizzing back with my in-laws across Ireland to the hospital (the funeral was miles from the hospital - scary!) and my waters broke at 9:00p.m., ten minutes from the hospital, and I gave birth at 11:00 that night - no probs! Without classes!

You'll be fine! They usually help you with relaxation at the maternity unit anyway.

If you need any advice - feel feee to reply!!!

    Good luck, girl.

    xx

I didn't bother. Good thing too because most of my labor I was unaware of and took place at home. Rushed me to the hospital where I was 8 cm already so I didn't have to do all that breathing crap. Got to the hospital a little after 5 p.m, had my baby a little after 7 :}.

It's like a cult, and everything they tell you goes right out the window when you're in labor. I took a class years ago and it did zip for me, waste of time and actually really annoying....people standing around you telling you to 'breathe....breathe....in through the nose out through the mouth...' while you're squeezing out a baby, and it's like SHUT THE FUCK UP, I'll do what I wanna do here, fuck you people!! It's infuriating. Make sure you let the doctor and nurses know that you don't plan on obeying any idiotic breathing 'rules' or else they will try to make you, and like I said, it's soooo annoying when you're in labor. Breathe however the fuck you want, they monitor the baby and they give you oxygen if you need it, it's no big deal.
