Is it normal to not put down the toilet seat while taking a shit?

Whenever I take a shit, I don't pull down the toilet seat. The other day I shared that with some friends and they were completely weirded out. I just suppose it's because I have a big ass... Well, Is it normal?

    The other day I had to poop really bad and didn't bother checking to see if the seat was down and just sat right on the toilet. The unfamiliar was weird at first, but it was actually kinda comfortable, and was quite the interesting experience. I could see how one could do that every time.
