Is it normal to not like drinking tap water?

I spent about a month at my aunts house in another state after high school graduation and everyone drank tap water there.

I never could stand the taste and thought of what was in it. I found that I was slowly dehydrating myself by drinking soda and juice. But I didn't want to act rude and go out and buy bottled waters everyday.

Was this normal? It happened several months ago and I still only drink purified water.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I agree with Joe. It seems bizarre that we undertook a vast engineering project to deliver water literally "on tap" to each household. And then, in today's convenience-led society, we decide to go to the supermarket and pay ten times the cost to get water rather than use our own kitchens.

Although I do think we each need three taps in our sinks rather than two. There should be hot, cold, and fizzy.

  • I refuse to buy bottled water, I think it's just a big scam. If this kind of thing continues, we'll probably be buying bottled air in 20 years.

Dappled, you never cease to amaze me :-) A fizzy tap sounds brilliant! We should invent one and we could be millionaires! :-)

hehe, this is a lifelong obsession for me because I really like fizzy things. I put a milkshake through a sodastream once because I thought fizzy milkshake sounded good. It was okay, I suppose, but not great. Better than fizzy coffee, though. But fizzy water on tap, and potentially fizzy cordial of any kind? Let's get the patent in and make our fortune!

Depends on the area. I've lived in a number of places with absolutely horrid tap water. Bad taste, bad smell, stomach-aches...

Bottled water is a pain, both to transport and in terms of cost. You're better off buying a water filter for your faucet. They really do work, quite well, to eliminate impurities and chemicals. And I doubt it's much if any less clean than bottled water. All they do is take the same water that comes out of your tap and run it through filters.

Bottled water is the same thing as tap water just with a brand name on it.

I grew up with access to clean well water. City water always tasted like a swimming pool so I can understand not liking it.

Also, tap water has stricter regulations than bottled water and in some areas the tap is much cleaner. Much "bottled" water is just tap water anyways.

FYI-the only ingredient in water should be water. My tap is purer than the Kirkland brand they sell at Costco.

You should have purchased some spring water for yourself. I think you were being cheap because your parents supply the spring water at home. I'm sure they wouldn't have cared if you got a case of water for yourself. Cheap ass!

It depends where you live, I live in Vancouver and the tap water here Is one of the best in the world but I still go buy a water bottle because it make me think it cleaner, which it not.
