Is it normal to not leave the house?

I never leave the house when I don't have to, indeed I spend the majority of my time indoors. I look upon any kind of outing as a chore, not something fun to do. For fun things, I have my books, my movies, my games, musical instruments, and the internet. I see in the media that for people the concept of a Saturday night not out on the town is something looked upon with extreme disappointment, but for me, a Saturday night inside is the norm, preferable. Is this normal?

It's called introversion, you don't require "external" stimuli. The majority are extroverts and they'll tell you it's bad to be in all the time, but they're just projecting - it's bad for an extrovert because they don't know how to amuse themselves, they need something going on around them. Introverts make their own amusement. I do worry occasionally that I'm missing something, but I can't think what...

^Agoraphobia is a panic disorder associated with fears of crowds etc.. It's not what you have.

Society deems "having a good time" as going out drinking and having sex and associating with people your age or playing sports. Just because you're not following social norms does not make you a wrong or a freak. If people talked about things other than their five senses (the food here is SOOO good, OMG that movie looks so cool!!) then going outside and socializing might sound more tempting. Don't allow yourself to be a complete shut-in, and stop grocery shopping or seeing the sun once in a while, but do not think your preference of being inside and away from the masses is abnormal.

Don't listen to people who throw technical terms around as if they are experts.. It's your life and if you prefer to stay in then so be it.. It's not hurting anyone, including yourself! I prefer a night in over a night out almost anytime!!

  • Don't let people sway you, do what you want to do and what you think is fun.

  • Not normal. It's called agoraphobia. If you are happy this way, that's good, but if you're questioning it, maybe it's time to get some counseling.
